A MODEL CONVERSION ACTS 8:26-40 Model serves as a pattern, example for imitation. The conversion of a man is Acts 8:26 is a pattern for all to emulate, compare our own conversion. I. A MODEL AUDIENCE 8:27-31. An angel told Philip to go preach to one man and he did not hesitate. This treasurer of Ethiopia was sincere in his faith. He was a model because he had open mind and was willing to learn (v.31). II. THE MODEL MESSAGE: JESUS 8:31-35. Philip’s first task was to show him the suffering servant referred to the Messiah!! As Philip explained these facts, truths with the prophecy of Isaiah, understanding came into his heart. III. MODEL RESPONSE: OBEDIENCE 8:36-39. It is impossible to preach fully on Jesus without preaching about baptism v. 36. When the treasurer learned Jesus desired for him to be baptized, he did NOT want to wait. Unfortunately today, when people learn they should be baptized, they look for a way out; this man looked for a way in: ready to surrender to Jesus. The terms in 8:38, 39: went down into the water; come up out of are compatible with immersion. This is NOT surprising because the word ‘baptism’ literally means “immersion.” He had much to rejoice about: learned about Jesus; saved from his sins; his name written in Lamb’s book of life.
