DO WHAT YOU CAN ACTS 9:32-43 Next to the story of the stunning light, blinded eyes, and dramatic calling, in our text we find the story of an ordinary woman who lives out her faith in simple way. In Acts 9:32-43, we are told of Christians using what they have to do what they can for the Lord. I. PETER RESTORES A CRIPPLE 9:32-35. While Peter was ministering in Lydda, Doctor Luke diagnosed a man’s condition (9:33b). As usual, the apostle Peter did not take the credit but confirmed it was by the name of Jesus Christ. Primary purpose of miracles was to confirm the Word of God (Heb. 2:3, 4). It did that (9:35). II. PETER RAISES A CORPSE 9:36-42. Scene now moves 12 miles to the West to a certain disciple named Dorcas in Joppa. This is the first account of a Christian dying a natural death. We have seen two unnatural deaths. Dorcas was truly a model Christian, abounding in deeds of kindness and charity. As far as we know, this was the first time an apostle raised someone from the dead. REMEMBER: miracles were never an end within themselves but ALWAYS a means to an end. The favorable response in the community prompted the apostle Peter to prolong his stay in Joppa to reap the harvest of souls (9:43). Simon used what he had to do what he could!! God calls us to live out His character, to live in His purpose, and to let light shine for Him!
