LOOKING FOR HONEST HEARTS ACTS 17:1-15 In pages of Scripture, we find God’s perfect revelation to man. Paul and Silas were the ones mistreated, yet their concern was for the new babes in Christ-16:40. Having said their farewells, they left but a congregation planted grew precious to Paul Phil. 1:3 I. RESISTING THE WORD 17:1-9. For three Sabbaths Paul preached Jesus with 2 aims: Prove from OT Christ had to suffer, rise again; and, to prove Jesus was the looked-for Messiah. When the seed of the Gospel is planted in honest hearts, there will be a harvest v. 4. Trouble was not long in coming. For every honest heart there are 100’s of hardened hearts. Two specific charges made against Paul and Silas: They cause trouble; and, they claim Jesus was a King, a rival of Caesar. Jesus is King but NO rival to Caesar, since His kingdom is not of this world Congregation concerned about their safety, sent Paul and Silas to Berea 17:10. II. RECEIVING THE WORD 17:10-15. To their pleasant surprise, the synagogue was filled with honest hearts among Jews, Gentile God fearers. Need more people be convinced a teaching is truth before accepting it. Bible intake is absolutely essential for spiritual growth as child of God and follower of Jesus. Honest hearts, then and now, will accept God’s Word when it is shared and/or preached!
