DO NOT BE AFRAID

 • Series: ACTS | Authentic Christians That Serve

DO NOT BE AFRAID ACTS 18:1-11 Scripture does not reveal how long Paul stayed in Athens, it describes his movement to Corinth. Athenians were intrigued with the intellect; Corinthians were fascinated with the flesh. I. PAUL HAD A PROBLEM 18:1, 9. 1. UNSETTLING PAST. As many of us do, Paul likely let events of the past prey on his mind. 2. UNCERTAIN PRESENT. As we often do, Paul probably let circumstances get him down. II. GOD HAD SOLUTIONS 18:2-11. God is not only with us when sunshine overflows our souls; He is also with us when the blackness of despair fills our hearts and lives. God provided Paul what he needed to calm his fears: 1. RELATIONSHIPS. They became very close. 2. ROUTINE. When discouraged, important to stay busy. This is 1st time we read of his occupation 3. REUNION. Further encouragement was provided with the arrival of Paul and Silas. 4. RESULTS. Acts 18:8 tells the beginning of the amazing harvest as Crispus became a Christian. 5. REASSURANCE. Jesus’ assurances turned Paul’s anxiety into anticipation (18:11). Acts 18:18-22 wraps up the second missionary journey of the apostle Paul. No doubt, he once more was warmly received and reported ‘all the things that God had done (Acts 14:27) during the three years he & coworkers had labored in Greece.
