PAUL SHARES HIS HEART ACTS 20:17-38 After the eventful Sunday at Troas, the apostle Paul continued his third missionary journey. Although Paul was in a hurry to reach Jerusalem, he called for the elders from Ephesus to Miletus v.17. Paul shared his heart and we see his: I. PAST MINISTRY 20:18-24. Paul served day and night to make his message effective and no one could charge him with laziness. God’s work came first as he served with tears, yet, but with an attitude of humility. The only matter that concerned Paul was fulfilling the commission the Lord had given to him (v. 24). God’s work always came first with Paul. II. PEACE OF MIND 20:26, 27. No justifiable charge could be made against him for the cause of Christ. Three words to describe his ministry: hardship; heartache, humility! III. PARTING MESSAGE. 20:28-35. Paul reminisced and was comforted by the past, but looking forward, he was filled with apprehension. Having exhorted the elders to shepherd the church and warned of potential threats, Paul commended them to God’s Word in v. 32. We see Paul’s confidence in the sufficiency and in power of God’s Word. IV. PRAYER MEETING 20:36-38. When true love flows from heart to heart in the church, family of God, it solves many problems and hurts. Jesus tells us love MUST be the defining characteristic of people called by His name!
